2 Peter 3:9 “The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead, he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.”

Our family’s road trip to Treasure Island, Florida, wasn’t anything extraordinary by travel standards, no flashy theme parks, no whirlwind itineraries. In fact, before planning the trip, I had never even heard of the place. We were simply looking for a quiet escape. A place to rest, breathe, and reconnect. So, late on a Friday night, we set off on our 14-hour drive to a small town on Florida’s west coast.

Like most long road trips, this one came with its share of challenges: exhaustion, unexpected stops, stretches of highway that felt endless. And somewhere between the anticipation of arrival and the reality of the road, I realized how much this journey mirrored the spiritual tension that we can sometimes feel in our faith journey.

When we’re in a season of waiting, waiting for answers, healing, direction, or breakthrough, it’s easy to feel like God is taking too long. We begin to wonder if we took a wrong turn somewhere, or if maybe we misunderstood His promises.

But 2 Peter 3:9 reminds us that God isn’t slow, He’s patient. What we interpret as delay is often him displaying his grace and kindness. On our road trip, we didn’t immediately understand why the destination was so hidden or why the journey felt long. But when we finally arrived in Treasure Island, this peaceful, sleepy town with five miles of narrow beach and no major attractions, we found exactly what we had hoped for, even though it looked nothing like what we imagined.

That’s the nature of God’s promises. They often unfold slowly, quietly, and differently than we expect, but they are always good. Just as we trusted the map to get us to our destination, we are invited to trust God’s plan and timing, even when it doesn’t align with our own.

So if you’re feeling stuck in the “in-between,” wondering if you’ll ever get to where God is leading you, remember this: delays aren’t denials. He’s not late, He’s patient. He sees the whole road ahead, and he knows exactly where and when you need to arrive.

And just maybe, like our family did, you’ll discover that the quiet place He’s leading you to, whether on a map or in your heart, is exactly where your soul needed to be all along.
