Every successful road trip has an excellent road map to guide your journey. People who know the way create a map that shows the way to where you want to go. For followers of Jesus, that guiding map is the Bible. The early church pulled together sacred texts from Judaism: books of history, poetry, and prophecy. They brought them together with their writings about the life of Jesus, the stories of their movement, and letters their leaders had written to churches in different cities. Why did they compile them together like they did? To help people know the best way to get to where God wants them and they need to go. To give them a reliable map to help them on their faith journey. There are 66 books in the Bible that we read and study. Each one of them shows us the route to Jesus. Anybody ready for a road trip?
Why is this journey through the Bible along Route 66 crucial? Consider what God says in these passages…
- 2 Timothy 3:16-17 – All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
- 2 Peter 1:20-21 – Above all, you must realize that no prophecy in Scripture ever came from the prophet’s own understanding, or from human initiative. No, those prophets were moved by the Holy Spirit, and they spoke from God.
- Hebrews 1:1-2 – Long ago God spoke many times and in many ways to our ancestors through the prophets. 2 And now in these final days, He has spoken to us through His Son.
- Psalms 119:105 – Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.
