In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. All of creation—everything that has been, is, and will be—comes from God. He is the beginning and the source of all that is good, right, just, and loving. How do we know this? Because God has given us His Word, the Bible. 2 Timothy 3:16 declares, “All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.”
God’s Scripture contains His laws, prohibitions, warnings, plans, guidance, encouragements, and promises. Through His Word, we can come to know both God and ourselves, which is quite important, wouldn’t you say?
Unfortunately, many people today are biblically illiterate. They know little about God and His Scriptures. They may have heard of Him, but they don’t truly know Him. They often do not spend time intentionally and consistently reading and studying the Bible, preferring to let others dictate their beliefs. They often rely on social media or charismatic speakers—who may not truly know God or the Bible—to shape their understanding.
At Parkside, we take the Bible seriously, and we want everyone to truly know God and His Word. We aim to help others discover the Bible’s beauty, its wonderful truths, and the hope it contains. We want people to see the many blessings it offers and learn how to uncover these truths for themselves.
This is the vision behind our message series, “Route 66: Road Trip Through The Bible.” It will be a new Sunday morning series at Parkside, running from June 1st through July 27th. We will journey through the Bible as if we were traveling down the historic Route 66, which takes people from one side of America to the other. We’ll look at God’s roadmap for us, helping us navigate the highway of life.
We will stop at must-see sites and follow road signs that guide us along our journey. We’ll also examine some of God’s travel advisories, warning us about dangers that lie ahead. At rest stops, we’ll pause to catch our breath, reflect on the ground we’ve covered, and explore the regions and cultures we visit along the way. Additionally, we’ll provide helpful travel resources like the YouVersion Bible App and a “Read Through the Bible in a Year” plan. So join us on this trip, you’ll find the journey worthwhile.
